On May 18th 2025, ICOM (International Council of Museums) will celebrate International Museum Day worldwide und the theme „The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities“. It is also in line with the upcoming ICOM General Conference in Dubai (11- 17 November 2025), where global museum professionals will explore how museums can adapt, evolve, and lead in times of change.
ICOM has called upon the GLAM team at Wikimedia CH to communicate this year’s campaign together and to reimagine the role of museums in an evolving world. It is a call to embrace innovation, to uplift diverse voices, and to ensure that museums remain relevant, accessible, and transformative.
The GLAM team at Wikimedia CH is delighted to announce that it will be taking part in International Museum Day on 18 May by hosting a panel. Many of WMCH values align with the Sustainable Development Goals this year’s campaign focuses on:
Goal 8 – Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.
Goal 9 – Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation.
Goal 11 – Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
The GLAM team at Wikimedia CH will provide an online space to reflect on the role of museums not just as guardians of the past, but as architects of the future – driving progress, fostering inclusivity, and inspiring change.
